There are various reasons why a sauna cabin may not reach the desired temperature.
We have summarized possible causes for you below.
The sauna heater is the heart of every sauna. Before buying a sauna heater, you need to know what power is required for the cabin volume.
- If the sauna heater is oversized, it will switch off faster at the heater sensor, and the cabin will not heat up properly.
- If the sauna heater is undersized, meaning a heater that is too weak for the cabin volume was chosen, the sauna heater will heat continuously to reach the target temperature. This increases energy costs and the wear and tear on the heating elements. This is also often the case if existing glass surfaces in the cabin are not considered in the calculation.
- Inaccurate or missing air intake and exhaust. The air vents in the sauna cabin are extremely important. A 5-7 times air exchange m³/hour must be ensured.
If the openings are too small or not present at all, the hot air will remain at the ceiling and cannot circulate and distribute throughout the room. On the one hand, you will soon have no fresh air during your sauna bath, and the sauna heater will eventually break down due to heat buildup and overheating of the heating elements. Please adhere to the heater manufacturer's specifications for the openings.
- Sauna stones packed too densely, which severely restricts airflow and overheats the heating elements.
- Heater and/or bench sensor incorrectly positioned, e.g., the heater sensor is mounted too far from the sauna heater / the bench sensor is mounted under the bench or at the height of the top bench in the cabin. The control unit will then not switch off the heater.
-
Defective sauna heater. Heating elements are wear parts, so replacement from time to time is a necessity. An electrician can measure the heating rods to determine if one or more heating elements are defective. If the sauna heater does not turn on at all, you should first check the fuses and the RCD.
- Malfunction or defect in the control unit or sensor. An electrician can check where the fault lies and rectify it if necessary.
In any case, you should hire an electrician for any electrical work.
