Sauna Rules
Basically, you should sauna in a way that feels comfortable for you. After all, a sauna session is not a mandatory event but should be fun and increase your well-being.
Sauna not only reduces stress. Its positive effect on the immune system has long been known. Many physical ailments can also be alleviated with regular sauna bathing.
But be careful, of course there are exceptions and aspects to consider.
There are pre-existing conditions for which sauna bathing is prohibited. If you have discomfort or notice that you are not feeling well physically in certain situations, talk to your doctor to clarify whether saunas are suitable for you.
For sauna beginners, the motto is: always take it slow.
The body needs to get used to the strong temperature differences first. Pay attention to the signals your body gives you and only sauna for as long as you still feel comfortable.
General Rules:
- Allow plenty of time. A complete sauna session usually takes an average of 2-3 hours.
- Before the first sauna session, you should wash and dry thoroughly to optimally prepare your skin for the sweating program. A warm footbath can promote sweating before the first sauna session.
- The average sauna session lasts about 8-15 minutes. How high you sauna depends on how experienced you are and what feels good for your body.
- For the last two minutes of each sauna session, you should sit down to prepare your circulation for the upright position before standing up.
Jump straight into cold water?
Better not. Give your body a short time to recover. If possible, go out into the fresh air for a short time and take a shower.
After that, you can dare to jump into cold water. A subsequent warm footbath trains the blood vessels for temperature fluctuations.
After a 10-15 minute resting phase, you can carry out further sauna sessions at the same rhythm.
In which cases should sauna bathing be avoided?
- in case of significant discomfort
- in case of chronic diseases such as:
-severe heart diseases
-severe lung diseases
-inflammation
-severe high blood pressure
-kidney diseases
-epilepsy
-hyperthyroidism
- with an incipient or existing cold, flu-like infection, etc. (However, regular sauna sessions are ideal as a preventive measure against colds).
